A United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidate Ms Jane Kagiri has won the Laikipia County women representative seat for the elections held on August 9, 2022.
Kagiri scooped 69,735votes against Beth Waithera of The Service Party (TSP) who garnered 43,539 votes. In third position was Purity Kendi, an Independent candidate, who got 26,905 votes.
This was Kagiri’s second trial after losing in 2017 to outgoing Women MP Ms Catherine Waruguru.
She lauded residents for electing her and at the same time thanked Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for conducting credible and fair elections. Kagiri urged those who lost to join hands and work for the Laikipia residents.
The women representative seat had also attracted other candidates, Teresiah Warutere contested through Azimio La Umoja presidential running mate Martha Karua led party, the National Rainbow Coalition party (NARC-Kenya) and Virginia Wambui (Jubilee party).
