Over 1000 residents of a remote Island of Kadaina in Kilifi north Sub County will benefit from power connection courtesy of Italian Investors from Watamu.
The residents have never been connected to electricity since Independence and rely on ordinary lanterns.
The donors; a couple Mr. Guido Bertoni and his Wife Valentino and a friend Elizabetha said they decided to fund the electricity project to enable key institutions which they had established such as Marafiki primary, Secondary, Kadaina dispensary and Thoya Oya children’s home foundation that has over 74 vulnerable children get power.
Speaking to the press on Saturday, Mr. Bertoni said at first they installed solar panels to meet the power demand at the dispensary, schools and the Children’s home but due to demand of more power they have now opted to supply electricity.
Raymond Thoya Ngumbao the Founder of Thoya Oya Children’s Home foundation said the Italian donors had already paid Sh. 3.2 million for electricity to be installed at the island.
