Kabonyo Kanyagwal Fish Breeding Project on course

The residents of Kabonyo Kanyagwal in Kisumu County are lamenting over the delayed completion of Kabonyo Kanyagwal fish breeding project, where over Sh 1.5 billion shillings has been injected by the National Government and was flagged-off by President  William Ruto.

Experts overseeing the project among them, Rodrick Kundu, have regretted the delay in the completion of the project but noted that a contractor has been assigned to the project which they pointed will now be on course

“Kabonyo is a key investment, it’s a project that is going to transform the aquaculture sub sector and it is going to be done in phases and right now we already have a contractor on site” pointed Kundu who added that starting a project and completing it has some processes that are required for the projects’ success, but the contractor is now on site and they have started the basic development of the structures that are expected to form the phase 1 of the project, noting that the delays were due to the processes  that are involved in signing of the agreement and the flow of funds, but the construction has now kicked-off.

Kundu noted that the projects’ completion will be a game changer in aquaculture in the region, especially in the breeding of fingerlings.

“Its completion will ensure the key issues in the sub-sector are addressed, including the current problematic issue of low-quality feeds for the farmers which is among the pillar issues the project is going to address for the center will supply fingerlings in the whole region even up to the entire East African region” added Kundu, assuring that they are confident that the breeding center will be constructed within the prescribed time so the people from the region start benefiting soon.
