Baringo County football champions Kabarnet Boys High School have qualified for this year’s Rift Valley secondary schools’ regional term two games.
This is after they beat Moi Boys High School Kabartonjo by three goals to Nil in an entertaining final held at the institution’s playgrounds in Kabarnet town on Saturday.
The goals of the “titans” were scored by Emanuel Wanyama, who scored a brace, with Manjir Oyier scoring the other goal.
Kabarnet, who met Kabartonjo for the second time after a two-nil result in Pool A, scored early in the game in the 9th minute before netting two rapid goals in the dying minutes of the game, where Oyier and Wanyama sealed the crucial win in the 78th and 81st minutes, respectively.
The Baringo defending champions, who dominated the encounter in a jam packed field, have been pooled again with their archrivals, St. Anthony Boys-Kitale, in Bomet County from July 16 to 20 of this month.
Kabarnet, who are the 2022 Rift Valley region football winners and were edged past by St. Anthony in the 2023 semi-finals, are expected to renew their rivalry during this year’s regional showpiece.
In the ladies’ category, Mogotio Girls High School emerged victorious after defeating Kapropita Girls from Baringo Central Sub County by two goals to Nil after the latter squeezed past Nyimbei Girls following a 2-1 result in the first semi-finals match.
Last year’s county champions, Poror Boys, triumphed over Kabarnet in volleyball after registering 3-0 sets of 25-15, 25-20, and 25-17 to represent Baringo in the regional games.
Kimngorom Girls from Mogotio Sub County won the volleyball girls category despite being scared by Tabagon Girls in the first set, where they won 29-27.
However, in the second and third sets, they overpowered Tabagon from Baringo Central by winning the competition after scoring 25-17 and 25-16.
Both Emining and Kabarnet Boys will also represent the county in the secondary school games after they secure the Basketball and Rugby slots, respectively.
Kabarnet Boy’s Deputy Principal, Musa Koech, who spoke after the conclusion of the games, said that his boys are motivated after securing the two tickets for football and rugby.
Mr. Koech stated that his school is eyeing nothing less than the national trophy, and he is optimistic that they will get past St. Anthony in the opening match of the regional football games.
