Kevin Ochieng of Jubilee Party and brother of former MCA Cyrus Omondi won the Kahawa Wendani Ward Representative seat in a hotly contested by-elections that were held yesterday toppling over 15 other candidates.
Ochieng, whose brother died in mysterious circumstances while on official duty in India in February garnered 832 votes.
Out of the 15,941 registered voters only 2,006 representing 13 percent of voters turned out to cast their votes.
Bernard Kariuki Karanja of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria’s People’s Empowerment Party (PEP) candidate came second garnering 641 votes.
The results were announced by the area returning officer Kuria Mbugua who handed over the winning certificate to Ochieng.
Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party did not field a candidate for the ward seat and instead has been supporting Ochieng.
Kuria, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto led Kariuki in conceding defeat late in the night saying he was disappointed by the low voter turnout.
He called on Ochieng to work closely with Kariuki to fast-track development in the ward.
Ochieng assured residents of bringing development in the area to recoup the lost time that the ward lost for not having an MCA after the death of his brother.
