Residents of Rutara and Ngorika divisions in Ol Kalou Constituency have a reason to smile after the government completed and commissioned Sh 80 million Rutara Dam.
Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki said the project which now moves to the distribution stage will see more residents connected with piped water.
“The desilting of Rutara Dam, which is a colonial dam, has been completed on time alongside Gachwe, Tank 22 in Rurii and Kiganjo water projects within the Constituency.
“This is a milestone for the people of Nyandarua, as they lagged behind in water connectivity,” regretted Kariuki, who graced the launch of the Shs 80 million projects in the area.
Nyandarua County Commissioner Amos Gikaro Mariba, who doubles as chair to the County Development and Implementation Coordination Committee, called on the residents to protect water infrastructure in the region.
Mariba, raised concern over vandalization of water pumps and pipes as well as theft of solar panels that he said was dragging government development efforts.
“We have more than 40 water projects going on in various Sub Counties. It is therefore the duty of the residents not only to conserve these infrastructures but also secure and conserve water catchment areas,” Mariba said.
