Journalists urged to be versatile in the wake of Artificial Intelligence

Journalists drawn from anglophone countries have been urged to remain versatile and relay news using the available cross-social media platforms in the wake of content generated using AI.

Addressing journalists during the 12th specialized training course for Anglophone broadcasters in Cairo, Egypt, Mohammed Abdulrahman, founder E3Iam.com, said that with the emergence of AI, journalists should strive and relay their news using integrated multimedia channels in one platform.

“The era of traditional media is now behind us, with the rise of new media, and use of AI it is imperative to have print, still photographs and video run as one piece to attract and retain audiences.

Abdulrahman added that when creating content, journalists should be brief but to the point, since audiences do not have the luxury of time for perusing through lengthy paragraphs for news.

The digital content expert reminded journalists that as much as they are producing content for the present audiences, the same should still be valuable in the next 40 years or more.

Dr. Heba El Shahed, a lecturer Media studies, American University in Cairo (AUC) stated that journalists should strive to produce value driven content, which is concise, engaging and relevant.

“As journalists practicing in this present era, have your unique selling points. Know your demographics, and how to attract, engage and retain them,” she said.

The core contents should aim to educate, inspire, inform and entertain. They should also connect with the audiences and appeal to their emotions, added Dr. El Shahed.

The two-week specialized training is organized by the Supreme Council for Media Regulations-Egypt, for journalists drawn from Kenya, Tanzania, Eritrea, Ghana and Nigeria.
