Joseph Makilap of UDA has won the Member of National Assembly seat for Baringo North constituency after garnering 21,112 votes.
Makilap beat his closest competitor Sammy Chelanga who got 15,498 votes on an Independent ticket, Stephen Kokoyo (KANU) 2,055 and Elijah Chepson 31 votes.
According to the Constituency Returning Officer Harun Ndung’u 38,696 voters representing 77 per cent of the 50,287 registered voters casted their votes.
Speaking after the victory at Moi Boys High school Kabartonjo, the MP- elect thanked residents for voting for him and promised to tackle insecurity challenge that has forced scores to flee their homes.
While pointing out that insecurity was a major problem in the constituency, he said he will work with stakeholders to ensure normalcy is restored in banditry-prone areas of the constituency.
Makilap was North Rift Economic Block (NOREB) coordinator for the last four years.
