John Osogo High School from Budalang’i is the new county champion in the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Games soccer played over the weekend at Nambale Boys High School.
John Osogo stunned the unbeaten Madende secondary from Nambale Sub County 1-0 in the finals on Saturday to be crowned champions in the match graced by Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.
The strike by Reakey Sande in the 22nd minute was enough to earn them a ticket for the regional games to be held at Kakamega National School later this month. Madende has also booked a ticket for the regional bonanza.
The two teams have secured a slot to train at Kenya Sports Academy Kasarani for a period of 2 weeks courtesy of Sports CS through the Talanta Hela initiative as they prepare to proceed at the regional level.
St. Joseph’s Chakol stamped authority in the ladies’ category trouncing Katakwa 4-0 to be crowned county soccer queens. A brace from Naome Akuleut in the 48th and 55th minutes while Kaurechi and Rabecca Odunga accounted for a goal each in the 62nd and 78th minutes respectively.
In volleyball, Bumala Girls emerged champions after beating St. Peter’s Busibi 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-19) in the final. In the boy’s category, Sigalame was crowned champion after beating.Butula Boys in straight sets.
The netball title went to defending regional champions Bumala AC, who beat St. Joseph’s Chakol 79-10 in the final.
In Rugby 7s, Kolanya Boys emerged champions after beating St Mary’s Mundika 21-0 in the final. Kolanya had beaten Nambale Boys 14-0 in the semi-finals with Mundika beating Butula Boys 14-5 in the other semis. Butula beat Nambale 5-0 in a playoff encounter for the third and fourth positions.
Kolanya Boys, Mundika, Butula, and Nambale both qualify for regional games in that order. Other disciplines will send two teams each.
