Isiolo Sets Plans to Counter Coronavirus

Isiolo Governor Dr. Mohamed Kuti on Wednesday commissioned a 20-bed isolation ward so as to cater for any corona virus case in the county.

The governor assured residents that the county is fully prepared in case of an outbreak, with a ward that has a capacity of 20 patients and staff who have been trained to handle cases of Covid 19 infections.

Dr. Kuti revealed that his government has formed a Covid 19 response team, consisting of stakeholders from health and security sectors to handle cases of any infections.

Other measures taken by the county government to prevent and contain infections, include closure of all learning institutions as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ordering closure of clubs and social joints by 11.00 pm.

The governor said that there are 720 community health volunteers in the county who have acquired requisite skills to combat the viral disease.

He added that the county government will hold sensitization campaigns by use of posters, flyers and local media outlets.

Governor Kuti urged parents not to assume that closure of school is a holiday, and instead contain their children at home to avoid unnecessary gatherings.

The governor ordered hotel owners to provide sanitizers for their customers and maintain high levels of hygiene.

“Miraa market will not be closed for now but I urge those who use it to clean it using hot water before consumption, the county government will provide water and sanitizing equipment at all public places like markets and bus parks,” said Dr. Kuti.

The governor issued a directive for all county employees to work from home, except for those who work in crucial sectors like health and security.

He also urged residents to avoid spreading false information regarding the pandemic, but mind practicing personal hygiene and responsible citizenship.
