Inua Jamii beneficiaries encouraged to transition to e-citizen

Beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii programme in Molo sub-county have been urged to ensure they do not miss out on the migration of the programme to the e-Citizen platform exercise to avoid complications in accessing their monthly stipend from early this year.

Speaking in Molo, the area Social Services boss, Gypson Kangogo, said that those left out would not be able to access their cash.

He said the department has therefore intensified mobilisation efforts through the chiefs, community, and religious leaders in a bid to ensure that information reaches everyone before the February 15th, 2025, migration deadline.

“We are working with the local administrators and other leaders to ensure that all beneficiaries comply with this new directive,” said Kangogo.

“This is a very crucial exercise, and anyone who has this information should kindly share it out with any beneficiary out there,” he added.

He further clarified that exercise was not meant to recruit new beneficiaries to the programme but to help serve the existing beneficiaries through the E-Citizen platform, which was expected to ease the service.

Primary beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii programme are elderly people aged 70 and above, persons with severe disabilities, and households facing extreme poverty.

To register, eligible individuals must provide national identification details and, in some cases, additional documentation such as medical certificates for those with disabilities.

The exercise is taking place at designated government offices and selected centers across the subcounty.

“Those incapacitated should not shy away since the process has been designed to be as accessible as possible, and teams have been stationed in various locations to assist applicants who may need help navigating the system,” noted Kangogo.

In an effort to make the payment process more efficient, the government has partnered with Safaricom, and moving forward, beneficiaries of the programme will be receiving stipends through their registered Safaricom line.

This aims to reduce long queues in the various financial institutions where payment was done and simplify the procedure for those in remote areas.

Through their Safaricom lines, the beneficiaries would be required to send their details to a code provided by the Ministry of Social Protection to know the status and get access to their money through the line or a bank account, depending on the method chosen during the registration process.

He advised the beneficiaries to always get appropriate information from the nearby Social Services Office when need be and be wary of fraudsters out to extort money from them.
