Int’l organisation awards Kuria NGO for exemplary work

Mental-Real of State, an international organisation focusing on mental wellbeing, has awarded a local NGO based in Kuria-Migori for their exemplary work in community development.

The Founder and Creator of Mental-Real of-State, Dr. Michael Freeland, who celebrated the positive milestone of the Safe Engage Foundation based at Kehancha-Kuria, said that many organisations have been changing lives in their community without proper recognition.

Mental Real of State is a global initiative backed by I-Change Nations operating in over 140 countries designed to enhance the development of a positive mindset among individuals in society.

The international organisation was anchored on the principle that the beginning of harnessing the power of positivity is to understand the strengths and weaknesses of individuals in the organisation.

“I have come here to celebrate the achievements that Safe Engage has been doing in the Kuria region in changing the lives of individuals in society through the years,” said Freeland.

Safe Engage Foundation is a youth-led community-based organisation that has been involved in championing the rights of women and girls as we work towards eliminating FGM and other forms of gender-based violence in Kuria.

Dr. Michael Freeland, a USA modern-day philosopher and internationally published author, said that organisations that bring positive change to their communities, like Safe Engage, need to be recognised on a global scale.

He explained that the work Safe Engage has been doing over the years has not only saved lives but enhanced and built it for the betterment of the community involved.

Freeland noted that great people all over the world continue to do amazing work without appreciation or being celebrated, adding that Mental-Real-of-State provides a platform by creating awareness to help the world see and appreciate the positive impacts of organisations like Safe Engage have done to their communities.

“We want to bring awareness to what we have here and what we are doing here moving forward, as well as bring awareness to this organisation,” said Freeland.

He noted that the Kuria-based NGO was an example of world stability that projects the idea of’ ‘Do to others what you would want others to do for you’.

The Mental Real of State has also been supporting various organisations across the globe that have been doing remarkable work, but they are not recognised or appreciated through campaign awareness.

He disclosed that many people have made sacrifices to help their community without even being recognised, demonstrating their virtue, a true reflection of leadership qualities.

Mental-Real of-State has also been involved in the improvement of mental wellbeing by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression through mentorship, workshops, and breakout sessions driven by skilled psychologists.

Christine Alfons, the Founder of Safe Engage Foundation, acknowledged the positive recognition and appreciation by the Mental-Real of-State for what her organisation has been doing for the Kuria community.

Alfons said that for every child they have empowered, for every community that they continue working with, and for every life they have touched and changed, it has been a humbling experience, and feeling appreciated and thanked by an international organisation is the greatest fulfilment of her dreams.

She emphasised that her organisation has been able to engage over 2,000 children in knowing their rights, empowering over 360 women economically as well as fighting retrogressive vices like FGM community and Gender Based Violence among the Kuria community.

Solomon Rioba, a community religious leader who was also recognised by the international organisation for standing firm on championing the rights of women and girls as well as fighting FGM, disclosed that for close to 30 years the church has been fighting retrogressive vices in the community.

Rioba pointed out that being recognised by Mental-Real of-State is the greatest milestone achievement that will not only boost the morale of various organisations to champion their agenda but also make the world a better place to live in.
