Integrate ICT in learning, JSS teachers advised

Loitoktok Sub County, Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Director Fredrick Chimoyi has called upon Junior School teachers to fast-track integration of ICT in their teaching.

During a four-day JSS workshop at AIC Girls, Loitoktok, Chimoyi highlighted the importance of enhancing the use of ICT, not only to have effective teaching, but also to equip their learners with ICT skills.

He urged the teachers to familiarise themselves with ICT tools such as virtual learning, digital cameras, and smartphones, among others, to enhance their teaching.

“Prepare ICT-integrated lessons using resources from the internet, social media, or your own-created content to enhance the learning of your pupils,” he added.

The Director further advised the teachers on accessing various learning resource materials from the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development’s (KICD) Open Education Resource.

He also encouraged teachers to embrace remote teaching, especially when the learners are on holidays or when normal schools’ programmes have been interrupted, for instance, as it happened recently due to floods.

Loitoktok Sub County Director of Education, Peter Bitah, urged the teachers to appreciate and know that Junior School is with us to stay and should not devalue themselves.

He urged them to embrace the new changes and be committed to refreshing themselves through training.

Bitah said the purpose of the retooling is to help them remain relevant in the market owing to the fact that there are always changing trends in teaching and learning.

He highlighted the importance of equipping themselves with the necessary knowledge for Junior School learning through training, mentorship, and experience.

The four-day’ workshop has drawn teachers for Grade 7 and Grade 8 across the sub county.
