The new Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, Dr. Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u, has said that information officers from the Directorate of Information should be given the support they need for gathering information to enable them to effectively inform the citizenry.
Dr. Ndung’u said if the field officers who worked at various county offices were provided with adequate funding, they would be able to get information on projects and programmes being implemented in the rural areas and disseminate the same to the public.
She said the information would help people make informed decisions that stir development as well as make them be engaged in development activities.
The CS spoke on Monday during a meeting with Heads of Department from the State Department of Broadcasting and Telecommunications held at the Ministry’s Headquarters, Telposta Towers, Nairobi.
Dr. Ndung’u said the purpose of the meeting was to acquaint herself with the departmental heads with whom she would be working to achieve the Ministry’s mandate and to deliberate on the areas to work on.
“I want to seek your advice and experiences. There must be something you can learn from me and learn from each other,” she told the Departmental Heads.
The CS assured the Heads of Department of her intervention in the areas that needed her action, while the Departmental Heads assured her of their support to attain the Ministry’s mandate.
During the meeting that was attended by, among others, the State Department of Broadcasting and Telecommunications Director of Administration, Mr. Waweru Kimani, and the Directorate of Information Director, Mr. Joseph Kipkoech, the Heads of Department presented what their departments do and what they planned to achieve in meeting their goals, as well as the opportunities they intended to apply to achieve their objectives.
