Residents of Igembe South have been urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activities related to drug peddling and illicit brewing.
Speaking to KNA, Igembe South Assistant County Commissioner Magdalene Wesonga noted that illegal practices have significantly undermined the social fabric and increased rates of criminal offenses.
Wesonga gave a stern warning to the perpetrators, emphasising the government’s zero tolerance towards illicit brewing and drug trafficking.
‘’Our office is fully committed to eradicating this social menace at all costs, and those caught engaging in the destructive practice will face the full wrath of the law,’’ she warned.
She highlighted the growing concern over the adverse effects of drugs and illicit brew sales, adding that the menace has been greatly associated with economic instability and hence cannot be tolerated.
Wesonga further revealed that many families’ disintegration and neglect of domestic responsibilities have been the result of addiction.
She maintained that many youths have fallen prey to addiction, thereby threatening the future of the entire community.
She called on community members to take their stand and fight the menace, which requires concerted effort from every individual and stakeholder to protect and safeguard the future of the younger generation and the community at large.
“The fight against drug and illicit brew selling is a shared responsibility, and therefore everybody should be vigilant and report any suspicious activity for us to eradicate this threat to our societies,’’ she emphasised.
