Ijara residents ask for Huduma Centre

Residents of Ijara Sub-County in Garissa are appealing to the Government to consider opening up Huduma Centre in Masalani town to enhance service delivery to people in the area.

Through their Member of Parliament (MP), Abdi Ali Sheikhow, the residents are requesting the Cabinet Secretary Public Service and Gender, Aisha Jumwa, to initiate Huduma Centre services at the Masalani Township to enable area residents’ access government services they need.

Mr Sheikhow who was speaking at the home-coming ceremony for the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) legislator, Falhatho Dekow Iman, decried the limited number of public servants working in the three Sub-Counties of Ijara, Hulugho and Bothai, noting that such a situation jeopardizes development efforts.

The Ijara MP observed that most of the government offices, either be they of the National Government and County Government, are manned by one officer with no clerical support staff, saying its barely a one-man department.

Mr Sheikhow who was accompanied by Ijara leaders and East Africa Assembly legislators from Isiolo, Naomi Wako, nominated Azimio MP Ummelkheir Harun and former Garissa County Woman Representative, Anab Subow, welcomed former Garissa County Governor, Ali Bunow Korane, who joined United Democratic Party (UDA) and Kenya Kwanza Coalition.

Sheikhow commended President William Samoei Ruto, for nominating Falhatho Dekow Iman, from Ijara Constituency to EALA Assembly.

Sheikhow  said the government he joined as a NAP-K  candidate, has helped him in ensuring no child is chased away from school, due to lack of school fees.

He told residents that application forms for the constituency bursary are available in his office and called on parents of poor and needy children, to apply, assuring them that no child will be chased from school because of lack of fees.

The MP said local political issues should be solved locally by Ulama,Imams, and local leaders, noting there is no much crisis on the subject.

Falhatho Dekow Iman who hails from Ijara, thanked President Ruto for the effort he gave when she was seeking support for the post of a member of East Africa Legislative Assembly.

The meeting was attended by former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, and Garissa County Speaker, Abdi Idle among other dignitaries.

The Director of Public Prosecution, Noordin Haji, thanked President Ruto for recognizing Ijara residents by supporting Falhatho Dekow Iman’s nomination, as Member of the East Africa Legislative Assembly.

Noordin Haji emphasized the importance of educating the girl child, adding that girls in the area have been facing a myriad challenges that include the Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriages.

Haji commended Ijara residents for supporting the government of the day since time immemorial, noting that Ijara refused to secede to greater Somalia at independence and has continued to date to regard themselves as Kenyans and to support Government’s development agenda.
