IEBC to Conduct By-Elections in December

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will conduct by-elections for various vacancies on 15th December this year.

In a press statement sent to newsrooms this afternoon signed by the IEBC Chairman, Wafula Chebukati, the by-elections will be for the National Assembly for Msambweni constituency, Member of County Assembly for Kahawa Wendani ward in Kiambu county, Kisumu North ward in Kisumu county, Dabaso ward in Kilifi county, Wundanyi/Mbale in Taita Taveta county and Lake View ward in Nakuru County.

Mr. Chebukati said the details of the by-elections have been published in a special issue of the Kenya Gazette Notice 6933, vol. CXXII No. 168.

He said the by-elections will commence afresh since no activity had taken place from the date of gazettement of the initial notice of by-election on 31st March, 2020, to that of postponement on 1st April, 2020.

“However, Dabaso ward activities shall resume with campaigns from the 12th of November this year,” he added.

The Chairman said guidelines have been developed to guide all candidates participating in the by-elections and will be issued in due course.

“All candidates intending to vie in the by-elections will be required to adhere to the Ministry of Health protocols on containment of Covid-19 guidelines,” he stated.
