Integrated internally displaced persons from Siaya county have called on the parliamentary public accounts committee to probe how billions of shillings meant for their compensation was spent.
The IDPs lamented that though the government released sh. 6 billion to the coordination committee to settle those affected by the 2007/2008 post election violence clashes; they were yet to be compensated.
According to the Siaya Integrated IDPs Network secretary, Philip Onyango Oduol, over 5,000 members from Siaya county were still waiting for their share of the compensation kitty.
Oduol who was flanked by the network chairman, Ambrose Otieno called on the government to urgently compensate integrated IDPs from Siaya, adding that out of the 5000 registered members of the network, only 701 have received their dues.
“I appeal to President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene in the matter,” he said adding that the question of compensation needs to be fully addressed, he said at a Siaya hotel Wednesday.
He said it was disheartening that the IDPs from other parts of the country have benefitted from the government kitty while others were left to cry and beg for compensation.
