Identification of needy households for aid, distribution begins

The identification of vulnerable families for food distribution has begun in Kwale County Tuesday.
Ward administrators, chiefs and their assistants are carrying out the exercise which Governor Salim Mvurya while launching said the process will be all-inclusive.
“There should be no corruption, tribalism, favouritism, nepotism or exclusion of any kind,” he said when he addressed the press in his office.
The governor said 67 percent of vulnerable households in the county are likely to miss their daily meals due to closed businesses owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
To cushion these vulnerable families the county government requires about Sh 450 million to be able to cater to their food requirements.
“With this amount we will be able to cater for 116,404 households which translates to 500,000 people,” he said.
Mvurya said the county is considering releasing Sh.200 million for food provision and support poor families and help cushion economic shocks.
“Nonetheless, this may not be sufficient, thus we appeal to well-wishers to come forward and partner with us in this humanitarian mission,” said the governor.
The governor encouraged everyone to remain steadfast with the zeal to overcome COVID-19 pandemic.
“Let us adhere strictly to these measures of cessation of movement and in 21 days we’ll all emerge victorious,” he added.
