A Christmas party turned tragic for a family after their father stabbed their mother to death for buying new shoes without his consent.
Witnesses said husband killed his wife at Mawingo slums within West Pokot County before fleeing out of the scene into hiding. .
Preliminary reports into the disturbing incident revealed that the man of the house was not amused on learning that his wife had bought her self some shoes for the Christmas festivities.
According to a neighbour Tom Makuto, the man” stabbed his wife to death before running into hiding after the two picked a quarrel over a pair of shoes that the wife had bought to wear during Christmas day”.
“These people have been quarrelling now and then, but during the material day the deceased had bought a pair of unisex shoes. When the husband arrived on Christmas morning he wore the shoes and went away without informing the wife only to turn up the following day on Boxing Day. The wife tried to question him only for the husband to turn wild and stabbed her,” said Makuto.
Confirming the incident, area county police commandant Mathews Kuto said they have launched a manhunt for the suspect saying he was still at large.
He added that domestic wrangles ensued between the two, before the husband Jimmy Njoroge took a kitchen knife and stabbed the woman severally on her chest.
“Neighbours tried to cool them down but the man could not listen to their pleas. The couple is in their early twenties with no child,” Kuto said.
He said the deceased was stabbed three times on the chest and neighbours took her to the hospital but unfortunately she died on the way.
The body is lying at Kapenguria referral hospital mortuary.
