Home and business owners urged to heighten premises security details

Following a wave of insecurity in Murang’a south sub county, the officer commanding Kenol police station, (OCS) Chief inspector Albert Kipchumba has implored on home and business owners to enhance security details of their premises.

The most affected area include Kenol, Githanji, Kagaa,Wempa, Gikono and Katipanga areas.

Improving the premises security details, he says will act as a deterrent to potential threat even as the security team does its best to ensure protection of life and property and maintenance of law and order to all homeowners, businesses, tenants, landlords and religious institutions.

The OCS added, “I implore on all business people, churches and home owners to redo the door locks to their premises and homes as thieves have become smart and modern and it would take just a few seconds to unlock a door and gain access.”

“Ensure you use burglar proof locks for your homes and business, this will act as a deterrent to the criminals and it will make it difficult to gain access to your property,” he said.

He also urged home and business owners to ensure the pathways in their homesteads are well lit as this not only heightens the level of security but also acts as a preventive measure for the safety of guests and occupants of the properties.

“You can also install solar security lights to ease monitoring during blackouts,” he said.

The OCS reiterated that the security team was committed to carrying out daily patrols and were ready to respond to distress calls within Kenol town and across the border as part of the town lies in Kandara Constituency.

“On security matters, there are boundaries in crime prevention and apprehension of criminals,” he stated.

He said it is paramount for home owners to install CCTV surveillance in their homes or business premises but to ensure they go for higher resolution cameras that do not compromise on quality of pictures they get.

“Installing a CCTV in your residential property offers deterrence of potential intruders, allowing remote monitoring for added security and will ensure faster and more effective response and also helps in evidence collection in case of incidents,” he said.

The OCS further called on the residents to pass information that would help curb the insecurity menace without fear of victimization as confidentiality will be highly upheld.

“I encourage you to talk to us, share your security concern with me and I promise that our conversation will remain anonymous forever so that we can fight crime collectively,” he noted.

On his part, the business community chairperson Peter Maina lauded the efforts being made by the security team to end crime and lawlessness in Kenol town and its environs.

“Our town is growing significantly and so is crime, but with concerted efforts among all stakeholders led by the security team this battle will be won and our town will be a safe haven where our businesses will not face security threats,” he said.
