A chief has perished in a grisly road accident after his motorcycle collided head-on with a probox vehicle a long Homa bay Rongo road this morning
The Assistant chief of Kotieno Sub-Location in West Kanyada location of Homa Bay Town constituency Erick Owino Odundo died on the spot after sustaining serious head injuries.
The deceased was on his way home from Homa Bay Town when a Probox vehicle which was coming from the opposite direction towards town collided with his motorbike thus killing him instantly.
According to Chief of Homa Bay Township Location Joshua Ochogo, the driver of the probox was trying to overtake another vehicle and in the process collided with the oncoming motorbike the administrator was riding.
Ochogo added that the vehicle veered off the road and landed in a ditch after the incident.
On his part Homa bay Sub County deputy County Commissioner Joseph Ngeny described the officer as honest, dedicated, hardworking and good in coordinating security matters.
“The officer was on his official duty because he was going to check on some consignment of bhang that was confiscated this morning, the criminals ran away in the resultant confusion after the accident,”Ngeny revealed.
Ngeny further promised to assist the family in funeral arrangements.
Confirming the incident to KNA, Homa Bay County police commander Esther Seroney said police officers have launched a manhunt for the driver who escaped after the accident.
Seroney appealed to drivers to avoid reckless driving especially when carrying passengers to avoid causing accident.
She said that the driver will be arraigned in court once found.
The body of the administrator has been taken to Homa bay County referral hospital awaiting postmortem while the vehicle has been towed to police station for inspection.
