Homa Bay County referral hospital requires upgrade, Official

Homa Bay County Executive Member for Health Prof. Richard Muga has called on health stakeholders in the region to work towards ensuring the county’s only referral hospital is elevated to level 5.

He said for the hospital to be upgraded, there was need to refurbish the theatres and the intensive care unit, increase the bed capacity to 500 and recruit better trained personnel to run the facility.

Speaking yesterday during a stakeholders meeting at a Homa Bay Hotel, Muga said his department was liaising with the national government for grants to facilitate the upgrade.

He said the county’s growing population had strained the available facilities and health personnel which necessitated the upgrade of the county’s main hospital to level five while the facilities in the Sub Counties also required to be refurnished

.

“We are working hard to meet our targets in local revenue collection as we engage the national government to fund us to a tune of at least Sh. 500 Million to enable us recruit additional staff and upgrade our health facilities.

He expressed satisfaction that the County’s Assembly recently passed the health finance bill which prioritized the county’s health sector in resources allocation.
