Homa Bay Continues to Record More Women in Leadership

The number of women in leadership continues to rise in Homa Bay County, as some of them are now venturing into National Government Administrative positions.

Judith Achieng Ojijo managed to join the list of the outstanding women who have defied all odds in the male dominated society to clinch power, after she was installed as the assistant area chief of Lower Korayo Sub-Location in Rangwe.

The Sub County has a number of female leaders including the area Member of Parliament Dr. Lilian Gogo, Rangwe Sub County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Alfet Jillo, Sub County Police Commander Magdaline Chebet, among others.

Speaking at the coronation ceremony at Korayo Chief’s Camp, the DCC lauded the residents for entrusting women with leadership responsibilities in the society. “I can always walk around with my head held high while performing my duties knowing that Rangwe people know the value of women leadership,” Jillo said.

However, the administrator was remorseful that a few individuals in the area were escalating Gender Based Violence and infringing the rights of young children. She issued a warning to those who defile and subsequently impregnate school-going girls to stop before they are brought to book.

The DCC lauded the newly installed chiefs for the commendable energy they are demonstrating and at the same time challenged them to serve the people indiscriminately.

On her part, Ojijo who was installed alongside fellow Assistant Chief Elijah Beti who will man Upper Korayo Sub-Location, thanked the people of Korayo for trusting her with the responsibility without considering her gender.

The newly installed administrator also called upon the national government to construct a polytechnic in the area to help reduce immoral cases caused by idle youths.
