Heifer International to boost Siaya poultry farmers

Heifer International will support poultry farming in Siaya county by giving farmers extension services.
Head of monitoring and evaluation at Heifer International Mr. Erick Ooko said the extension services will cover awareness creation, strategies to increase production, diseases control and linkages to markets and credit institutions.
The official said the organization will serve the 10,000 poultry farmers groups already enlisted under the Agricultural Sector Development Support Programme Phase 2 (ASDSP II), in the county.
He was speaking in Siaya Monday, when they signed a Memorandum of Understanding between his organization and the county ASDSP II coordinator, Mr. Kenneth Owuor.
Mr. Owuor urged more women and youth to enlist in the poultry program, because a majority of them were economically disadvantaged.
He said the marginalized lots could easily sustain poultry farming because it required the least capital and limited land.
