Health committee calls for improved level 5 hospital services

Kiambu County Health Services Committee has called upon the County government to revamp and modernize the Kiambu Level Five Hospital following a public outcry over problems affecting the hospital.

The committee led by the Chairperson John Njiru Ndiba during a tour at the hospital said there was need to increase staff at the hospital to meet the needs of the patients.

“Kiambu Level Five Hospital has been facing a myriad of challenges among them under staffing. This hospital needs more nurses. There is also the lack of adequate non- pharmaceuticals and enough modern equipment,” he noted.

The committee led by the Chair noted that there is a need to revamp the facility so that it can match the services offered at a modern Level Five Hospitals stressing the need for the County government to pump in more than Sh100 million for essential services.

The committee proposed for an improvement on the facility including a modern trauma center and casualty, more medical examination monitors, additional wards such as maternity, postnatal and pediatrics, five additional well-equipped contemporary theaters, and a modern morgue with a cold room and enough morticians.

The committee however acknowledged there have been some improvement in the provision and timely supply of medicine to the hospital.

Recently Kiambu County Governor Dr. Kimani Wamatangi flagged off Sh60 million worth of medicine that was distributed to all the hospitals in the County.

Kiambu residents are also in the process of registering for the National Health Insurance Fund under the Kiambu Universal Health Care mass registration campaign that was launched in December 2022 in order for them to get affordable and sustainable medical cover.
