Health center upgraded

The Bukura health center in Kakamega County is set to be upgraded to a level IV hospital, Governor Fernandes Barasa has announced.

Speaking at Lurambi National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) offices in Kakamega town, the governor also announced that the county government will construct a maternity wing and a mortuary following the upgrade of the facility.

The Governor, who spoke during a public participation forum on 2023/2024 Finance Bill, said the county has advertised job vacancies for doctors so as to ensure that the health facilities operate 24 hours.

To improve the health sector further, Barasa said the county, in partnership with partners, is going to equip community health partners with adequate equipment to ease the work of medical personnel.

“We are going to make sure that you get all the required equipment because primary health care is at the epicenter of President William Ruto’s government.”

“We want to make sure that all our dispensaries and health centers have doctors and pharmacist so that thy operate 24 hours”

The County government has earmarked a total of 205 health facilities for upgrade through the Tutunze Kakamega Service Delivery Redesign (SDR) strategy.

If implemented in three phases, the county government targets to distribute finances, provide staff equipment, increase bed capacity, improve hospital infrastructure and stock enough medicines.

The County Government is partnering with Jacaranda Health, Thinkwell, Thinkplace, Harvard University and Buildx Studio in the SDR strategy meant to improve maternal health.
