A watchman who suffered serious cuts in the head as he tried to bar robbers from accessing a premise he was guarding in Apuoyo market in Gem Wagai Sub County, has succumbed to the injuries.
25-year-old James Ouma passed on at the Siaya county referral hospital where he was rushed following the incident that occurred at dawn Friday.
Confirming the incident, Dienya West sub location assistant chief, Mrs. Eunice Ayuoyi, in whose area the raid occurred, said another guard, Victor Ogango is still undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
She said Ouma and Ogango had confronted the robbers who raided Apuoyo market in the wee hours and tried to break into the shops.
As the night guards tried to repulse the robbers, said the assistant chief, a confrontation ensued where the robbers who were armed with pangas and other crude weapons hacked the two, inflicting serious injuries in their heads and other parts of the body.
The administrator said that police were handling the matter and had started investigations.
She called on members of the public to help the security agencies with information that could lead to identification and arrest of the robbers who fled.
