Kisii county government has completed significant renovations at Gusii Stadium, which is now ready to host Shabana FC’s home games.
Speaking to the press at the stadium in Kisii town, the team’s Secretary General Elizaphan Kerama said the stadium had been repaired to meet the required Football Kenya Federation – Premier League (FKF-PL) standards.
“The FKF is likely to approve our use of the field for the 2024/2025 season due to our enhanced service areas and security features,” noted Kerama.
The Secretary General has expressed confidence in the pitch, confirming that the first home game against Posta Rangers FC will be held on September 28.
Kerama thanked the supporters for constantly rallying behind the team and the county government for working closely with Shabana’s management team to ensure the works were upto the required standards.
In addition, he expressed appreciation to the neighboring Homabay county government for hosting them last season when Shabana used the Raila Odinga Stadium as their home ground.
The Secretary General said the Sh. 75 million sponsorship by Kenya’s leading gaming firm, SportPesa for a period of three years will also boost the club and player’s success and attract much more talent.
Kisii Deputy Governor Elijah Obebo said the county government is committed to maintaining the required standards for the pitch so that they can play host to local as well as international matches.
“It’s only football that unites communities and people in the current world and we are ready for the 2024/2025 premier league games,” Obebo said.
Lastly, Shabana FC will face Ulinzi Stars in an away match expected to be played at Ulinzi Complex over the weekend.
