Police have launched investigations into an incident where a boda boda operator was shot and critically injured by unknown assailants at Adhi-Huqa village in Marsabit Central sub-county.
Local sub-county police commander Johnson Wachira said the victim was accosted by armed criminals at around 9.30 pm on Wednesday night and shot three times on the legs and shoulder.
The youthful victim, he added, was rushed to Marsabit county referral hospital before being transferred to Meru for specialized treatment.
Mr. Wachira added that the attackers also set the victim’s motorcycle on fire before disappearing into the darkness.
The sub-county police commander said the motive of the attack could not be immediately established adding they have launched investigations into the incident.
Area deputy county commissioner Patrick Muriira warned members of the public against possessing illegal firearms.
Mr. Muriira said illicit small weapons was a threat not only to peace and safety of individual citizens but also to the country.
The deputy county commissioner said the government was keen at eliminating the menace and asked residents to always pass over information regarding suspected characters who could be holding arms illegally.
