Gunmen on Monday morning attacked a PSV vehicle headed from Rhamo to Mandera town.
The landcruiser driver Abass Jet said he heard gunshots followed by an explosion.
Mr. Amass who has survived an Improvised Explosive Device , IED, before said the gunmen shot at the wheels before the explosion occured.
The incident happened at Bamboo area in Mandera North Sub County where another IED had been planted two weeks ago.
According to eye witnesses the suspected Al Shabaab militants confused the vehicle with police escort that guards passenger vehicles plying the route.
Passenger bus vehicle transport has been halted by bus operators since Saturday citing insecurity.
The Mandera buses chairman Mohamed Bardad said all bus companies plying the route to Nairobi have stopped operations over security concerns.
Area police commander Jeremiah Kosiom assured passengers of their security saying the government was in full control.
