Gucha Stars, a community football club based in Gucha Sub-County, Kisii County, is making waves in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Division One Zone B league, where they currently sit at the top of the table following an impressive string of victories this season.
The club, whose home ground has seen an influx of enthusiastic fans, has not only demonstrated remarkable form on the pitch but is now setting its sights firmly on promotion to the National Super League (NSL), the country’s second-tier football competition.
Speaking to the Kenya News Agency (KNA) after a thrilling 3-0 friendly victory against Sameta Boys, the club’s head coach Sammy Okoth expressed confidence in his players’ ability to secure promotion by the end of the season. He noted that discipline, rigorous training and unity among the players have been key drivers of their current success.
“All our players arrive early for training and give their best on the field,” said Okoth. “The level of commitment I’ve seen is unmatched, and I’m confident that we have what it takes to win the remaining matches and secure promotion to the NSL,” he added.
Coach Okoth also highlighted the role of fans and the broader community in energizing the team. “The support from our fans has been overwhelming. It’s what keeps us going, and we are really grateful,” he remarked.
He went on to acknowledge the crucial backing the club has received from well-wishers and sponsors, which has helped in sustaining training programs, equipment and match logistics.
“We thank all those who have supported us this far, but we still call upon more sponsors to come on board. This journey is not easy, but with more help, we can go even further,” he said.
The Gucha Stars FC squad remains focused and motivated, with players sharing a collective belief that they can finish the season unbeaten. With 6 games remaining in the FKF Division One Zone B calendar, the club is determined to maintain its momentum and realize the dream of joining the National Super League.
As the promotion battle heats up, Gucha Stars have become a beacon of hope for local football talent in Kisii County and an inspiration to budding footballers in the region. The community now eagerly watches, hopeful that their homegrown team will soon grace Kenya’s bigger football stage.
