Group donates foodstuffs to homeless families in Kitui

The Great Hearts Foundation, a group of philanthropic youths, has come out to donate foodstuffs to the Servant of the Poor Foundation, a home for the homeless in Kithyoko.

Poor Foundation home was started in 2018 by Mary Musembi, a Catholic Sister, in bid to help the needy in the society who have been rejected by their loved ones due to their medical condition.

The philanthropic youth group toured the home at Kaonyweni in Kithyoko and donated food stuffs to help the home feed their family.

The foodstuff included three bales of maize flour, 100kgs of rice, 40 litres of cooking oil and 10 boxes of milk.

The youths also helped in washing clothes for the bedridden members of the home as well as doing other cleanliness activities.

Speaking after receiving the donation, the Catholic nun said she was very happy and thanked the youths for the noble gesture.

“Am extremely happy for this. I pray that God bless you to continue blessings others,” said Musembi.

She also ask other well-wishers and the government to chip in to help the home take care of its members.

Dorcas Mwongela, the founder of the youth group, said that she came to know Sister Mary Musembi after she helped one of her friends who had been stranded in hospital and vowed to help her with the good work she was doing.

She called upon other people in the society who were able to assist the nun in undertaking the great work.

Msanii Joseph, a youth who is a member of the group said that seeing what was happening in the home touched him and there was still much which could be done to help assist the home to achieve its objective of caring for the needy.

Last month, a well-wisher group from Nairobi visited the home and donated food stuffs to the home of the homeless.
