A sombre mood has engulfed Buyuka beach in Bunyala Sub County after a 23-year-old student from Kisii University drowned in Lake Victoria while on a swimming exercise.
According to Busijo Assistant Chief Wilberforce Egesa, Frank Onyango Wanyama met his untimely death after participating in construction of his friend’s house on Saturday afternoon.
“At around 12.30 pm, I received a report from one of the beach managers that one young man who had gone swimming in the company of three others had drowned,” he said.
Egesa stated that Onyango was a third year student pursuing a Diploma in Laboratory Technology course.
He added that the friends were able to retrieve the body. Police moved the body to Port Victoria Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem.
