A middle aged man was arraigned before a Kiambu court to face charges of attempting to rape his aging grandmother in Banana town a fortnight ago.
Michael Wairimu Karanja appeared before Kiambu senior Principal magistrate Ms Stella Atambo charged that on 10th October 2019 at Banana town in Kiambaa Sub-county of Kiambu County, he intentionally and unlawfully attempted to sexually assault Mary Wairimu Karanja without her consent contrary to section 4 of the sexual offences ACT No.3 of 2006.
He was also facing an alternative count of indecently assaulting her grandmother by intentionally touching her buttocks against her will contrary to section 11(a) of the sexual offences ACT No.3of 2006.
He pleaded not guilty to the 2 counts and his case will be heard on January 3rd 2020 if he deposits a bond of 100,000 and surety of similar amount.
For the prosecution, senior state counsel Mr.Donnex Ongira said he had lined up 5 witnesses to buttress the case.
The same court also charged another middle aged man with defilement of an 11 year old minor.Benard Mungai Kiarie was charged that on October 20th at Gachie, he unlawfully defiled the minor without her consent.
He faced an alternative charge of committing an indecent act with a minor that on the same day, he touched the private parts of the minor with his genitals. He pleaded guilty to both counts and the magistrate said he could be released on a bond of 200,000 and a surety of a similar amount.
The case will be heard on 6th January 2020 and will be mentioned on 5th November 2019. Mr. Ongira for the prosecution told the court that he had lined up 6 witnesses whom he would rely to prove his case.
