The government would, in three months, operationalize 20 newly created sub-counties across the country to enable Wananchi to access government and other services easily.
Internal Security and National Administration Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo also disclosed that arrangements to deploy national police reservists (NPR) to complement the work of the police among the pastoralist communities in Marsabit County were at an advanced stage.
Omollo pointed out that long distances to government offices were not only costly to the people but also a hindrance to development.
“The government will operationalize the gazetted administrative units within three months, including Korr sub-county in this constituency, to enable you to access government services without any hindrance,” he said.
He expressed satisfaction that the war against cattle rustling and other banditry activities was being won, adding that the government would soon enlist NPR to ensure the gains made were sustained.
The principal secretary thanked local residents for their continued support in the fight against crime and urged them to maintain peace by cultivating good relations among themselves.
Omollo also underlined the importance of education and asked parents to enroll their school-age children in school in order to prepare them for a bright future.
He advised them to offer equal opportunities to both boys and girls and asked the local administration to check on retrogressive customary practices like early marriages to ensure no child was denied education.
During the visit, the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, flagged off the distribution of relief food worth Sh7 million to needy families who are reeling under famine occasioned by a prolonged drought.
The consignment consisted of 48,100 kilograms of rice and 12,420 kilograms of beans, which he directed to be speedily and fairly distributed to the targeted beneficiaries.
The function was also attended by the principal secretary for ASALs, Idris Dokota, county commissioner Nobert Komora, Marsabit Deputy Governor Solomon Gubo, and Laisamis MP Joseph Lekuton, among others.
