Govt to assist skilled Kenyans acquire passports for abroad jobs

The government has promised to help skilled Kenyans acquire their passports after a successful recruitment to work abroad. Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection Dr. Alfred Mutua has said.

Mutua disclosed that there are Kenyans who have gotten jobs abroad and are unable to acquire passports, thus hindering their prospects overseas, and so the government has assured them of facilitating the passports for ease of travel and improving their lives abroad.

“Whether you have a passport or not, as long as you have been interviewed and have a job offer, the government will organise how to get the passport,” said Mutua.

Speaking to the press during the national overseas job recruitment at the Machakos Institute for the Blind, where over 3000 Machakos youth had converged for the recruitment exercise.

He revealed that a minimum of 1000 Machakos residents have been recruited for various jobs available and are expected to travel in three weeks’ time to different destinations.

He stated that a thorough verification of documents will be done after a successful recruitment to ensure none have fake documents.

Mutua assured the residents that financial challenges should not hinder them from travelling since several banks who were present at the recruitment site are willing to help with funding for plane tickets and other documents after coming to an agreement with them to deduct a certain amount from their expected salary abroad.

Principal Secretary for Technical Vocational and Education Training (TVET), Dr. Esther Muoria, on her part, encouraged the youth to join the TVETs to gain the required skills and certification that will propel them to gainful employment abroad.

Additionally, Muoria urged the skilled youths like the mechanics, plumbers, and painters who lack education to join the TVETs so that in 6 months they will have been skilled and awarded a certificate and be able to develop the country to industrialisation.

“When you have that certificate, you have a chance to earn a better salary and be well respected in the communities,” said PS Muoria.
