Water shortage could become a thing of the past in Voi Sub- County and the larger Taita Taveta County following the release of funds for the Sh. 2.5 billion Water and Sanitation Development Project (WSDP) by the national government in partnership with the World Bank.
The project that had been proposed in 2020 is now ready for take-off to bring water to the tens of thousands of homes and business premises in the county.
During a meeting held on Friday morning between TAVEVO Water and Sewerage company officials and county delegation led by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water, Environment, Sanitation, and Natural Resources, Esther Mwanyumba to discuss the way forward for the implementation of the project, stakeholders expressed their gratitude to the National government and the World Bank.
“We are indeed thankful to the national government and the World Bank and other global partners for deciding to walk with us in our journey to end water shortage and strife in the county,” stated elated Madam Mwanyumba.
The mega water and sanitation project is set to benefit more than 10,000 residents in Taveta, Wundanyi, Mwatate, and Voi.
Recently, the county government in partnership with the national government and other international partners has renewed its commitment to solving water shortage and sanitation problems throughout the county.
The county has in the recent past seen an increase in water projects such as the Nyangoro-Maktau water project, the 42-billion Mzima II water project, among others.
Taita Taveta County, despite sitting on a massive water tower in its slopes and rivers still faces acute water shortages.
