Gov’t keen to support local manufacturers

Interior PS Eng. Karanja Kibicho has reiterated the government’s commitment to support local manufacturing industries as a precursor to job and wealth creation.

Speaking on Tuesday in Kitui during an inspection tour of national government projects, Eng. Kibicho demystified manufacturing lingo saying the basic sewing of uniforms for administrators was part of the government’s Big Four Agenda.

“I would like to challenge the devolved units of government to initiate projects that meet the international market threshold in a bid to leverage on the export market,” said the PS.

Kibicho commended Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu for her push to realize local manufacturing. “I want to thank the Governor for demystifying the narrative that manufacturing was not possible at the grassroots,” he said. He called on other counties to emulate Kitui’s model to create jobs and reduce importation of consumables.

He further expressed satisfaction on the quality of products made in KICOTEC saying the move has grown confidence in the locally made products in the country.

Ngilu on her part lauded the national government for supporting the flourishing of local industries adding, “The Government’s Big Four Agenda has singled out the manufacturing sector as one of the key drivers of economic growth. We really appreciate your support and invite the President to visit KICOTEC.”
