Govt extends last-mile water connectivity project in Kilgoris, Lolgorian

The National Government will extend the last-mile water connectivity project in Kilgoris and Lolgorian Town in order to boost water coverage and improve sanitation.
Speaking to the media during the public participation forum in Kilgoris CDF offices, Huldah Chepkoech, an engineer at the Central Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency (CRWWDA), said that the project is under the Ministry of Water and Sanitation that boost water coverage and improves sanitation in the towns.

The engineer said Narok Water and Sewerage Services Company Limited (NARWASSCO) in collaboration with CRWWDA, the Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency (LVSWWDA), and the Ministry of Water Sanitation and Irrigation proposed the Kilgoris and Lolgorian town water project last mile connectivity.

She said this project will help the residents to be connected with piped water so that the residents can be supplied with clean water that is treated in order to help in reducing waterborne diseases.

Chepkoech added that there are many opportunities, such as employment of youth, of which communities will be given the first priority.

She added that the project is funded by the National government through the African Development Bank.

Chepkoech also said upon the completion of the project, it will be handed over to the county government for management under NARWASSCO.

On his part, George Angeng’o, Principal Environmentalist at LVSWWDA, said they have already done the first-mile project connectivity—connecting water to Kilgoris and Lolgorian towns.

Angeng’o added that the public participation is to engage with the public on the last mile water connectivity project by engaging them on Corporate Social Responsibility, the environmental impact assessment, and the design of the project.

The area Member of County Assembly, Leina Moritat, urged the communities to cooperate with the contractors, especially where the piping line will be installed.

Julias Chesuswa Kilgoris Central Ward administrator urged the stakeholders to create awareness in the community for the upcoming developments so that they can be part and parcel of developments.

Lekishon Sitima, Nakuyiana, a resident, urged the contractors to consider social amenities such as schools and hospitals to be connected with piped water because many schools have no water.

Sitima also narrated that they used to walk over kilometres in search of water, and the project will be a sign of relief to Kilgoris residents.
