Gov’t creates two new sub-counties in Tana River

Residents and leaders of Tana River County have hailed the government for creating two more Sub-counties.

The new Sub-counties that were gazetted on 31 January by Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior and Coordination of National Government, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, are Bangale and Galledyetu, they were hived fromTana North and Tana River Sub-counties.

Tana River County will now have five sub-counties namely Tana River, Tana North, Tana Delta, Galledyetu, and Bangale.

Speaking in his Office, County Commissioner Mbogai Rioba said Galledyetu sub-county headquarters will be at Wayu while Bangale’s will be at Madogo. The two headquarters are trading centres.

“The benefits of these sub-counties will be enormous once they are officially inaugurated as residents will access government services at  close proximity unlike currently where they are forced to travel long distances to Tana River and Bura,’’ said the County Commissioner adding: “It won’t take long before we officially inaugurate them.”

The county commissioner urged residents to invest in housing especially in the Galledyetu sub-county to accommodate officers who will be deployed to work there.

On Saturday Amb. Hussein Dado, CAS Interior applauded the move by the government saying the process of establishing divisions in Waldena, Hirimani, and Chewele was ongoing.

“We thank the government of Uhuru Kenyatta for giving us two sub-counties,’’ said Dado, adding that all administrative units’ headquarters were located along River Tana.
