The government through the National Irrigation Authority has commissioned a Sh 200 million water project in Nyandarua County.
The Karagoini water project is set to serve over 70,000 households in Leshau Pondo, Kiriita, Ndaragwa central and Mbuyu areas, all in Ndaragwa Constituency.
While inspecting the project yesterday, immediate former Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki said that the project is over 90 per cent complete.
“I have inspected the ongoing works and I want to assure residents that all of them will have access to water in two months,” Kariuki said.
The project was to be completed last year but leadership wrangles among its community management committee derailed it.
Kariuki said now it was possible for the beneficiaries to practice smart farming through irrigation.
“This is one of the government promises to make sure that there was food security as stipulated in the big four. That is why the national government intervened and pumped in money for the completion of this project,” she said.
She challenged the county government to ensure that all households were connected with pipes as the national government had done the main works of putting up the major connection pipes and water supply center.
She added that the government had allocated an additional Sh11 million for water connectivity to reach many families.
