The Director, Government Delivery Unit Silvance Osele, has confirmed that most of the national government projects in the Nyanza region are progressing as expected and within the timeline that was scheduled.
Osele was confident that the focused projects are performing well and are above 80 per cent completion.
The Director, who spoke at Koginga Beach Fish Market in Homabay after a project site tour at Tom Mboya University, said apart from a few stalled projects, there are others which are soon to be complete and commissioned before they could be handed over to the public.
“The people of Homa Bay can go for the Christmas celebrations and new year knowing that in three months, some of these projects will be due for commissioning and handing over to the mwananchi,” he assured.
The national government has made an investment of approximately Sh15 billion in projects including roads, water, and markets, among others, in Homa Bay, according to the director.
“There are some upcoming projects like the stalled Kadel-Kanyadhiang-Pala Road that has been awarded to a new contractor, and the works will commence by January,” he added.
The team from the presidential delivery unit, accompanied by other departmental heads, visited a number of ongoing government projects while verifying their status progress, including Tom Mboya University, where they confirmed the progress of the administration and lecture halls, the affordable housing project, the Koginga beach fish market, the Rusinga Ring Road project, and the Mbita-Sindo-Magunga-Kiabuya road project.
The director commended the workmanship at Tom Mboya University, saying, “There is excellent work done with the auditorium, the lecture halls, the conference hall, and the tuition block.”
Osele confirmed that the Tom Mboya University project is almost complete at 97 per cent and due for commissioning.
The Sh227 million affordable housing project is at 88 per cent, while the fish market, a project of about Sh346 million, is at 88 per cent complete.
Homa Bay County Commissioner (CC) Moses Lilan, on his part, asked the contractors to deliver quality work and sent a stern warning against substandard work.
“All contractors awarded contracts by the national government have to work to the best of their ability and deliver quality work. Let this be a warning to all those who have been given work here that they must deliver to the standard, quality, within time, and cost agreed upon. Do not take shortcuts and give us shoddy work,” he said.
CC Lilan further confirmed that many of the projects initiated in the county are on schedule and within the time and cost envisaged, apart from a few that had stalled.
