Governor to support extra-curricular activities in Kakamega

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has assured residents that his administration will improve sporting facilities and support ongoing extra-curricular activities in the county.

He said the county government is developing a policy to support local football teams, starting with those in Division 1.

Barasa was speaking when he received the Kakamega County Water and Sanitation Company (KACWASCO) football team and Isikuti dancers from the area for emerging champions in the 13th edition of the Water Companies Sports Organization (WASCO) games that were held in Murang’a county.

KACWASCO football team regained their football title after trouncing Siaya Bondo Water and Sanitation Company Limited (SIBO) 1: 0 in the finals.

The Isikuti dance and song also emerged the best in the traditional, song and dance category.

While congratulating both teams for emerging victorious, Barasa said the county government has developed an affirmative action fund to support sporting activities.

“We shall invest in the requisite infrastructure so that we have enough playing fields. Right now we are doing a survey of rehabilitation in the field of Kakamega high school. We are also doing some bit of rehabilitation at Mukumu field. For us to really excel in sports, we must have proper infrastructure,” he noted.

The governor said apart from performing well in sporting activities, KACWASCO was also voted as the best water company in the region. He pledged his support to the company’s infrastructural development.

“I want to assure you that as a county, we are going to support the investment in improvement of the company. For instance, we need to invest in bulk metering and the general infrastructure, which largely remains dilapidated,” he added.
