The top girl in 2018’s KCPE exam, North Eastern region, Bushra Ahmed Abubakar, has a reason to smile after Mandera governor Ali Roba offered to sponsor her entire secondary school education.
Subsequently, Roba has issued a Sh 215, 000 cheque to cater for Abubakar’s school fees and a further Sh.100, 000 to buy personal effects for the needy girl.
The 15 year old girl, who scored 423 marks sat for KCPE exam at Sunshine academy in Garrissa County. And with fees burden now behind her, Abubakar is expected to report at Pangani girls’ high school Monday.
Addressing the media at his Mandera residence Sunday, the governor accompanied by the girl and her parents, challenged other girls in the region to emulate Abubakar and excel in national examinations.
“A girl who works hard to secure gainful employment ends up taking care of the entire family and community at large,” Roba said.
Abubakar hopes to pursue medicine after completing her secondary education. “I cannot hide my appreciation for the governor who has come to my aid during this hour of need,” she said.
During December’s Jamhuri day celebrations at the Mandera Moi stadium, the governor promised to sponsor three pupils who would emerge the best in 2018 KCPE exam.
