Governor Receives Trophies Won By Kisumu during KICOSCA Games 

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o officially received nine trophies from the County team that participated in the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games.

Kisumu finished second overall with 18 points after Nairobi (31) in the ninth edition of the KICOSCA tournament which was held in the Lakeside County in January 2023.

Prof. Nyong’o congratulated the team for the excellent performance that has brought glory to the lakeside city. He said the event that featured 25 sporting disciplines was a success.

“I’m very proud as I receive these trophies today. Let us celebrate all the participants for their excellent performance. My administration will offer the necessary support so that Kisumu tops in the next KICOSCA games,” assured Prof. Nyong’o.

Kisumu topped in five areas including golf, basketball, handball, and tug of war all in the men’s category, and netball in the lady’s category.

Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o joined by a section of the Kisumu County KICOSCA team during the official handing over of the trophies garnered during the games held at the County.

It came second position in the women’s handball and Baganda dance and third in handball (women) and Ajua (men).

Prof. Nyong’o encouraged the county staff to foster a team spirit that was exhibited during the matches in serving the public.

The Governor added that his administration has established policies that are geared towards bettering sporting activities in the region.

“We are focused on improving sports facilities, especially in our parks to enable children to nurture their sporting talents. So far, there are swimming pools, hockey, and tennis courts in the parks for our kids to start learning the games at a tender age,” stated Nyong’o.

The County Executive Committee Member in charge of Sports Ms. Beatrice Odongo thanked Nyong’o for the support he accorded to the team.

“We experienced immense support from our Governor to make this program successful. To date, people still admire the KICOSCA Kisumu edition,” she stated.

Out of the over 8,000 KICOSCA participants from across the country, Kisumu had 281 staff take part in the various games.

The annual inter-county tournament brings together staff from all the counties with an aim to enhance national cohesion, team spirit, and talent development.
