Governor puts treasury and revenue officials on notice

Isiolo governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo has put the staff working in revenue and the treasury departments on notice if they do not deliver services according to the county’s expectation.

The governor said his administration would not condone lazy and corrupt workers adding they would be sent home without warning.

Speaking after an impromptu visit to the County Treasury offices today, Mr Guyo said he has already written to the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to investigate and arrest any suspected corrupt officers in the department.

The governor said it was shameful for the county government which used to be the best revenue collector in the defunct County Council to be unable to pay casual workers dues for dwindling revenue earning.

He added that lazy officers at the revenue and treasury who pocket public funds should know that their days as the county employees are numbered.

The governor said that he had ordered DCI to investigate revenue collection, Isiolo water and Sewerage Company (IWASCO) and arrest and prosecute all the corrupt officers.

Mr. Guyo said that his priority would be to streamline Iwasco, revenue collection at the county and from the two national game parks since services at these departments are very poor adding he was out to clean the mess at the treasury where salaries and allowances for junior officers are taking long to be paid.

Governor Guyo said that County staff and casual workers will now be paid by the fifth day of every month.

He said that workers would no longer suffer yet they have children in school and house rents to pay.

On the recent sacking of the County Secretary Dr Ahmed Galgallo, the governor said he will not entertain lazy officers to head the County offices.

He said he was not a tribalist since his 15 years in Nairobi politics knew no community association and would ensure he ended tribalism at the County.

The governor was accompanied by Deputy Governor Dr James Lowassa and former KNUT executive secretary Isiolo Branch Dadhe Boru.
