Governor provides supplies to scholarship beneficiaries

Vihiga Governor Dr Wilber Ottichilo has provided toiletries, face masks, sanitary pads and pocket money to the beneficiaries of the governor’s scholarship.

The scholarship has been running for the past four years and so far, 384 students have benefitted from the programme as four were picked from each of the 24 wards.

The governor stated that he intended to raise the number to 10 students per ward for the next lot.

“Apart from the supplies, the beneficiaries get a fully-paid scholarship for tuition and boarding fees,” he said, adding that pocket money is Sh4, 000 and Sh3,500 for girls and boys respectively.

Dr Ottichilo at the same time said his administration has been keen on Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) and the county polytechnics which were the devolved segments of education.

He disclosed that they have constructed 178 ECDE centres and intended to do 30 this fiscal year as well as employing 814 ECDE teachers last year.

The county head added that they have equipped 31 polytechnics and employed 135 instructors to boost technical training for the residents.
