The Vihiga Governor, Dr. Wilber Ottichilo has signed a Sports Bill in a move meant to improve and support sporting activities in the County.
Addressing the press after signing the Bill at the County Headquarters on Monday, Ottichilo who once again reiterated the commitment of his government to support sports said that the Bill will help to streamline sports.
He revealed that bureaucracies within finance management activities had affected running of sports activities in the County in the past.
However, he said that signing of the bill will be of great benefit to the sporting department since it will allow for setting aside of an independent fund to run the activities.
“In the past whenever we wanted to support sports bureaucracy came in as a hindering factor. However, with the Bill in place, we will be in a better position to promote sports activities in the County and accountability of the funds will now be ensured,” he said.
Present during the signing of the Bill was Deputy Governor, Dr. Patrick Saisi who also doubles up as the Executive Committee Member in charge of Sports and Culture.
Saisi said that signing of the Bill will among other things pave way for constitution of a Sports Committee which will oversee running of sports in the County.
“The committee to be formed following signing of the Sports Bill will among other activities be in charge of the budget for sporting activities in the County,” he explained.
Saisi said that the bill provides a framework on how the funds to be allocated will be utilised warning against misuse.
“This bill will seal all loopholes of corruption in our sports and those to lead the committee will be chosen on merit,” he reiterated.
