Governor Amos Nyaribo has launched an accident and emergency unit at Nyamira County Referral Hospital (NCRH) for operationalization in a bid to boost emergency service delivery to patients who have been involved in various forms of accidents.
He confirmed on Tuesday while launching the 11-bed capacity accidents and emergency unit that he is more than committed in ensuring that Nyamira residents get state-of-the-art emergency services because they are very critical in saving patients’ lives at stake before diagnosis of specialized treatment is made and treatment recommended.
“I will ensure our referral hospital facility is face-lifted to ultramodern standards to provide efficient and quality services to Nyamira residents and any other person from the neighbouring counties who will require these services,” promised the Governor.
“We have enough qualified and specialized human personnel and are more than ready to serve any client and/or patient who will require not only emergency services but other health related services in this facility and other health facilities in the entire county. The previous trend where we had been referring patients who require emergency services to neighbouring hospitals is now behind us because we have what it takes to offer those services now,” Nyaribo stated.
He hinted that the county will soon launch a prosthetics section in the hospital where patients with missing body parts of fractured bones, as a result of accidents, or ailments such diabetes and cancer will undergo a prosthesis surgery to implant the missing body parts with artificial ones.
This will enable specialists restore the normal functioning of the missing body parts of hundreds of such people those who are grounded and immobilized at home. He guaranteed that it will be the first and one of its kind in the whole of western Kenya.
“These pharmaceutical chemists who harass patients when they have been sent to buy drugs is wrong and I direct that that particular chemist doing that be closed immediately and their operating license be revoked with immediate effect because they have breached their operation regulations. They are creating a false impression that our facility does not have even the most basic drugs yet we restocked just the other day,” the Governor ordered.
He warned politicians from any quarters to desist from the tendency of politicizing every effort made by his government to push the county’s development agenda as it is an “embarrassment to themselves because residents have already built trust and confidence in the way my development agenda is being implemented.”
Governor Nyaribo appealed to Members of the public to ensure they play their watchdog role and report any form of malpractice or laxity in terms of service delivery they may notice at any hospital within the county and at the same time challenged them to play a faithful role of paying taxes promptly without fail because that money is which will be used to improve service delivery and implement other stalled development projects in the county.
The Executive Committee Member for Health Dr. Timothy Ombati thanked the Governor for his support and passion to revamp the hospital and several other health centres within the county and promised that health workers and all other staff at health facilities will work round the clock to ensure they provide best health service possible.
Present at the function was the entire County cabinet and their chief officers, some hospital staff and members of the public.
